This is to advise that Governor Wes Moore ordered the United States Flag lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Wednesday, July 9, 2025. This is the day of interment for Deputy Mark Porter of the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office who died in the line of duty on Tuesday, July 1, 2025. As a matter of protocol, the Maryland flag is lowered to half-staff as well.

The Maryland flag is currently flying at half-staff. After sunset on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, the United States flag and Maryland flag should return to full-staff.

This is to advise that Governor Wes Moore ordered the Maryland Flag lowered to half-staff effective immediately. A separate notification will be sent regarding the raising of the Maryland Flag. This action is for Deputy Mark Porter of the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office, who died in the line of duty yesterday, Tuesday, July 1, 2025.
