I am directing flags to be lowered to half-staff on the grounds of the Alabama State Capitol

Complex in Montgomery and in Alabama Senate District 11 (Shelby, St. Clair and Talladega

counties) on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, to honor the longstanding service of former state

Sen. James "Jim" E. Preuitt, who passed away on Sunday, September 19, 2021.

Sen. Preuitt was an exceptional public servant to the state of Alabama for nearly 30 years. In

1982, he was elected to serve a term in the Alabama House of Representatives before

transitioning to the Alabama Senate for another term in 1986. He was then appointed as the

probate judge of Talladega County in 1992. He returned to the Alabama Legislature as a senator

in 1998 and served three more terms until 2010.

I offer my heartfelt condolences and prayers to his family, friends and his beloved community.

The flags should be flown at half-staff until sunset on the day of his interment on Wednesday,

September 22, 2021.
