Governor Lee ordered all U.S. & Tennessee flags to half-staff at the State Capitol and all State office buildings From September 24, 2021 - October 1, 2021 in honor of Justice Cornelia A. Clark.


By order of the Governor, flags over the State Capitol and all State office buildings shall be flown at half-staff, effective immediately, in memory of Tennessee Supreme Court Justice Cornelia A. Clark. Flags over the Stat Capitol and all State office buildings shall be returned to full-staff, at sunset on Friday October 1, 2021.

Governor Lee said the following this morning in response to the news of Justice Clark’s death:

“Maria and I are deeply saddened by the news of Justice Connie Clark’s passing. Throughout her five decades of public service, including 16 years on the Tennessee Supreme Court, Justice Clark was a fierce advocate for justice and a trailblazer for women in the legal profession. She also made a profound impact on our state as an active member of her church and the Franklin community. We are praying for the Clark family and join Tennesseans in honoring her incredible life and legacy.”

As flags continue to remain lowered in honor of Supreme Court Justice Cornelia A. Clark until sunset October 1; by order of the Governor, flags over the State Capitol and in Hardin County are also to fly at half-staff from sunrise until sunset, October 1, 2021, in honor of Hardin County Sheriff’s Deputy Matthew Locke who was killed in the line of duty while responding to a domestic violence call. Deputy Locke was also a member of the Tennessee National Guard.
