August 31, 2020 - Half-Staff Alert - Odessa, Texas
The Texas flag is at half-staff regionally at all Parks and Wildlife Department owned facilities.
Dear Mayor Turner:
It has been one year since the Odessa community was struck by a heinous and senseless act of violence. Our hearts continue to go out to the victims of this horrific shooting, to their families, and to the entire community for this devastating loss. As such, it is fitting that flags be lowered to half-staff in memory of those who lost their lives.
Therefore, pursuant to Chapter 3100 of the Texas Government Code, I direct the Texas flag lowered to half-staff in the City of Odessa on Monday, August 31, 2020, in memory of those who were tragically lost. Flags should be returned to full-staff at sunset or by sunrise the following day.
Individuals, businesses, municipalities, counties, and other political subdivisions and entities are encouraged to fly their flags at half-staff for the same length of time as a sign of honor and respect.
The First Lady and I extend our prayers of comfort to the survivors and to the families of the victims as we continue to keep them in our thoughts and prayers.
Respectfully,
Governor Greg Abbott
