July 9, 2025 - Half Staff Alert - Alabama

I hereby authorize flags be flown at half-staff all day on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, on the grounds of the Alabama State Capitol Complex in Montgomery, and in the City of Prattville and throughout Autauga County to honor the life and service of former State Representative H. Mac Gipson who passed away at the age of 89 on July 6, 2025.

As a longtime resident of Prattville, Alabama, Mac Gipson served his community in many capacities. His career in public service began in the United States Army before later serving as Chairman of the Prattville Area Chamber of Commerce in 1991. Three years later, he ran successfully for Alabama House of Representatives District 88. During his four consecutive terms, he played a key role in crafting the state education budget as a member of the House Education Appropriations Committee. In 2011, Governor Robert Bentley appointed Gipson as Administrator of the Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Control Board (ABC) where he served until his retirement in December 2022. During his nearly 12-year tenure, Gipson implemented responsible drinking programs, and he oversaw an increase in gross liquor sales, which provided significant revenue support for essential state services. Back home, he was a successful CEO of Gipson’s Auto Tire, and a committed member of First Methodist Church in Prattville. Gipson’s service to his community, state and country will be long remembered and deeply appreciated.

The flags on the grounds of the State Capitol Complex in Montgomery, and in Prattville and throughout Autauga County may be flown at half-staff sunrise through sundown, Wednesday, July 9, 2025, the day of former Rep. Mac Gipson’s interment.
