Gov. Andy Beshear has ordered flags at all state buildings lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset Thursday, Aug. 14, in honor of a Kentucky soldier who died during the Korean War but whose remains were only identified in May 2025.

U.S. Army Pfc. Rodger E. Fields of Busy, Kentucky, was assigned to Company D, 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division. He was killed in action on Dec. 1, 1950, during the Battle of Jangjin (Chosin) Reservoir in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (North Korea).

Fields will be interred at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery South East in Hyden on Thursday.
