Gov. Andy Beshear has ordered flags at all state buildings to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset Wednesday, May 7, in honor of a Kentucky soldier who died in World War II but whose remains were only identified last summer.
U.S. Army Pfc. Kenneth D. Burgess, 29, of Central City, Kentucky, was a member of Company B, 4th Ranger Battalion, “Darby’s Rangers,” in the Mediterranean Theater. He was reported missing in action following a patrol toward the village of Sala, Italy, on Sept. 25, 1943. Read more here.
A graveside service and interment with military honors will take place on Wednesday at Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.
Gov. Beshear encourages all individuals, businesses, organizations and government agencies to join in this tribute.
