Governor Tim Walz has ordered all United States and Minnesota flags to fly at half-staff at all state buildings in the State of Minnesota from sunrise on Saturday, June 7, 2025, to sunset on Monday, June 9, 2025, in honor and remembrance of Amboy Fire Department firefighter Andrew Karels. Firefighter Karels, who served as the Amboy Fire Department's medical officer, died on June 2, 2025.
“Firefighter Andrew Karels was a steadfast leader for the Amboy Fire Department,” said Governor Walz. “His commitment to delivering exceptional care in emergency situations – always with compassion and professionalism – touched countless peoples’ lives during their most challenging moments. We mourn this sudden and tragic loss, and I extend my deepest condolences to Firefighter Karels’ family, colleagues, and all who knew and loved him.”
