August 27-28, 2024 - Half-Staff Alert - New Jersey
Governor Murphy today signed Executive Order No. 366, ordering U.S. and New Jersey flags to fly at half-staff from Tuesday, August 27 through Wednesday, August 28, when services will be held to remember and celebrate the life of United States Congressman Bill Pascrell, Jr.
Congressman Bill Pascrell passed away on August 21, 2024, leaving behind his wife, Elsie; children, Bill, David, and Glenn; as well as six grandchildren. Congressman Pascrell’s 14-term tenure in Congress began with his election in 1996 to represent New Jersey’s former 8th Congressional District, and continued with his election in 2012 to represent New Jersey’s 9th Congressional District. Before serving in the House of Representatives, Congressman Pascrell served in the United States Army and Army Reserve, was a devoted educator, and held roles in the New Jersey General Assembly and as the mayor of the City of Paterson. During his time as a public servant, Congressman Pascrell was a proud advocate for his community.
“Congressman Bill Pascrell was an unwavering champion for New Jersey’s most vulnerable residents,” said Governor Murphy. “A son and lifelong resident of Paterson, Congressman Pascrell tirelessly championed economic opportunity, better access to affordable health care, and fairer tax policies for families across America. Tammy and I extend our condolences to his loved ones and are forever grateful for his extraordinary life of service.”
