Flags at the State Capitol Complex and on all state buildings are flying at half-staff today to honor a Lansing serviceman.

Marine LCpl. James Tien Tan Huynh, 25, is being remembered today for his service and flair for art.

He was born in Lansing and graduated from Lansing Eastern High School.

He died March 26.

LCpl. Huynh was stationed with the 8th Communications Battalion at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina where his talents as a tattoo artist were appreciated by his fellow Marines.

Gov. Whitmer ordered the flags to half-staff today to coincide with the funeral in Lansing.

“We are deeply saddened to hear about the loss of LCpl. Huynh,” Whitmer said. “Our state will forever be indebted to his service. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time.”

He is survived by his mother, brothers and grandparents.
