February 29, 2020 - Half-Staff Alert - New Hampshire
Governor Chris Sununu has directed flags to be flown at half-staff on Saturday, February 29th, in memory of Captain Ryan S. Phaneuf of Hudson, New Hampshire, who was killed in a plane crash on Monday, January 27, while serving in Afghanistan.
“Captain Phaneuf made the ultimate sacrifice so that we may continue to live freely,” said Governor Chris Sununu. “Captain Phaneuf was an American Hero, and the State of New Hampshire will always be grateful for his service. It is my distinct honor to present Captain Phaneuf’s family with the New Hampshire Medal of Honor as an enduring symbol of Captain Phaneuf’s heroism, courage, and sacrifice.”
Governor Sununu will present the New Hampshire Medal of Honor to Captain Phaneuf’s parents and wife at his memorial services on Saturday, February 29, in Hudson, New Hampshire. Governor Sununu signed Senate Joint Resolution 2 on February 13, awarding the New Hampshire Medal of Honor to Captain Phaneuf. Per statute, “The governor shall present the New Hampshire medal of honor awarded under this section to the family members of the recipient.”
