A PROCLAMATION
By the Governor
WHEREAS, Sally Matz Susman was born on the fourteenth day of June, Nineteen Hundred Thirty, in Bluefield, West Virginia, the daughter of Rose Caplan and Nathan Matz; and
WHEREAS, Sally Susman graduated high school from Brenau Academy of Gainesville, Georgia, and received her bachelor's degree in journalism from The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio; and
WHEREAS, Sally Susman served in the House of Delegates representing the Twenty-seventh District of Raleigh and Summers Counties from Nineteen Hundred Ninety-eight to Two Thousand Four and again from Two Thousand Eight to Two Thousand Ten; and
WHEREAS, Delegate Sally Susman helped to found City Finance; worked as a newspaper publisher, operating the Mullens Advocate in Mullens, West Virginia, and The Gulf Times in Sophia, West Virginia; and served as director of the Bank of Mount Hope and the Raleigh County National Bank; and
WHEREAS, Delegate Sally Susman was elected to serve the Raleigh County Board of Education and was a former president of the Raleigh County Democratic Women's Chili; she was also a member of the Coalfield Expressway, Beckley Garden Club, and the Beckley Women's Chili; and
WHEREAS, Delegate Sally Susman a committed and respected public servant and a devoted mother, grandmother, friend, and neighbor, died on the Twenty-third day of December, Two Thousand Nineteen; and
WHEREAS, Delegate Sally Susman is survived by her daughter , Robin Susman (Bradley) Wartella; her sons, Benjamin Matz (Dixie) Susman and Thomas Land (Carol) Susman; grandchildren: Alisa Rae Wartella, Leigh Matz (Chad Otani Rooney) Wartella, Jennifer Rose (Carling Patricia McManus) Susman, Courtney Lynn Susman, Austin David Susman. and Michael Alan Susman; and two great grandsons: John Carlson Hutchinson and Miles Alan Hutchinson; she was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Alan Land Susman; and
WHEREAS, the citizens of the State of West Virginia, friends, and associates of Delegate Sally Susman desire to recognize her dedicated public service to the Great State of West Virginia, and to acknowledge her valuable contributions to the State.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, JIM JUSTICE, by virtue of the authority vested in me as the Governor of the State of West Virginia, do hereby ORDER that, in commemoration of the distinguished life and service of West Virginia Delegate Sally Susman the United States and West Virginia State flags displayed at the Capitol Complex in Charleston, West Virginia, and at all State facilities throughout Raleigh County, West Virginia, shall be lowered to half-staff from dawn to dusk on the Twenty-seventh day of December, Two Thousand Nineteen, the day of services celebrating her life.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the great seal of the State of West Virginia to be affixed.
