May 7, 2023 - Half-Staff Alert - Entire United States
President Biden will order all flags to half-staff May 7, 2023 to honor and remember the 79 firefighters who died in 2022. His official proclamation will be here as soon as it is avilable.
On Sunday, May 7th, the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation will be honoring 144 firefighters who have died in the line of duty, 79 firefighters who died in 2022, and 65 who died in previous years.
Public Law 107-51 requires the United States Flag to be flown at half-staff on the day of the Memorial Ceremony. The General Services Administration (GSA) will be issuing a notice and the United States Fire Administration (USFA) has been in communication with GSA to confirm. Please let us know if you have any other questions.
National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend was switched from October to May because of October's unpredictable weather and the possibility of government shutdowns that would prevent acess to the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Park.
