Peace Officers Memorial Day, observed each year on May 15, honors the federal, state, and local law enforcement officers who were killed or disabled in the line of duty. It is a solemn day of remembrance for the men and women who accepted extraordinary risk in service to their communities and country.

We expect President Trump to issue the annual presidential proclamation recognizing the observance and calling for flags to be flown at half-staff on May 15. It is an important opportunity to reflect on the sacrifice of America’s peace officers and to show respect for those who gave everything in the line of duty.
