I am directing flags to be lowered to half-staff on the grounds of the Alabama State Capitol Complex in Montgomery and in Alabama Senate District 10 (Cherokee, DeKalb and Etowah counties) on Saturday, September 4, 2021, to honor the service of former state Sen. Jack Floyd, who passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2021.

Sen. Floyd served in the Alabama Senate from 1990 to 1994. He had a legendary 68-year career in the legal field and was admired by all who knew him for his passion in helping his clients and community. He also previously served as chairman of the Gadsden City Board of Education and fought three years in the Korean War as an Infantry Officer in Fox Company, 22nd Infantry, 4th Infantry Division.

On behalf of the people of Alabama, I thank Sen. Floyd for his tremendous service to our state and country. I offer my heartfelt condolences and prayers to his family, friends and his beloved community.

The flags should be flown at half-staff until sunset on the day of his interment on Saturday, September 4, 2021.
