June 1, 2022 - Half-Staff Alert - Iowa

Gov. Kim Reynolds ordered all flags in Iowa to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, in honor of Richard Johnson, who served as State Auditor from 1979 to 2003 and passed away following a 10-year battle with Alzheimer's on May 26. Services for Johnson will be held on Wednesday in Madrid with burial following in Sheldahl.

“We celebrate and honor the life of Richard Johnson and the dedicated service he provided our great state for over two decades,” Gov. Reynolds said. “Mr. Johnson was a true family man and had a love for serving as the State Auditor. He was a trusted official who was steadfast in his duty of protecting and upholding the integrity of state taxpayer dollars. He did everything in his power to assure Iowans their tax dollars would not be misspent, and he made our state a better place through his work.”

Flags will be at half-staff on the State Capitol Building and on flag displays on the Capitol Complex. Flags will also be at half-staff on all public buildings, grounds and facilities throughout the state.

Individuals, businesses, schools, municipalities, counties and other government subdivisions are encouraged to fly the flag at half-staff for the same length of time as a sign of respect
